1.08 Ton Processed Meat Products Originated in ASF Red Zone Areas seized In Matnog Port
Over a ton of assorted meat products which originated from ASF red zones were confiscated, burned and buried by the Bureau of Animal Industry and the National Meat Inspection Service in Matnog port on Wednesday.
The products were found on board a Toyota Hi-ace bound to Samar and a Diamond Star passenger bus going Tacloban City which were originated from Quezon City and Tanay Rizal.
Assorted meat products include kikiam, tocino, longanisa, tufo, tokwa, dimsum siopao, meat balls and processed vegetables with pork ingredients.
Lacking pertinent papers, the BAI decided to seized the 11 boxes of pork products weighing 550 kgs onboard the private car owned by a certain Percival Mendoza of Quezon City and the 530 kgs of another batch of meat products from a passenger bus consigned to a certain Rhoel Ledera of Tacloban City.
The Department of Agriculture has alerted all entry and exit points in the country to prevent the spread of African Swine flu which now affects the hog industry.# (with report from Romedor Gloriane and GD Sales)
