SORSOGON City - The enrollment  in public schools for school year 2020-2021 in Sorsogon City has reached to a near 100% according to the City Schools Division Office.

Sorsogon City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. William announces to the public during his radio guesting over 89.5 OKfm Sorsogon hosted by Armand Dematera Engay, that as of latest data gathered by CSDO, Sorsogon City has achieved a ninety-seven percent (97%) enrollment from kindergarten to senior high school, one of the highest in Bicol.

Gando recognizes the efforts given by school administrators and its teaching personnel and the cooperation by parents to achieve higher gain in public school enrollment amid the challenges of the community quarantine brought by COVID-19 pandemic.

Sorsogon City is under Modified General Community Quarantine until end of July as the city recorded one (1) COVID-19 case who recovered, since the entire Luzon was put under  community quarantine from March this year.

Gando said that they are hoping the remaining three percent (3%) of learners who are expected this year will make it until the school opening appealing to parents to look for ways to get in touch with their class advisers.

Meanwhile private schools remain low in its enrollment achieving only fifty seven percent (57%) rate as of latest, but Gando said this is a gain in itself as it already surpassed the 50% mark.

Enrollment for school year 2020-2021 was held from June 1 to July 15, 2020, without requiring parents or learners to be physically present in the schools.

The opening of classes is on August 24,2020 and the Department of Education is set to implement Self Learning Modules with alternative learning modalities, all design for distant learning approach because of the pandemic.#
