Frat recruit died of hazing in Bulan, Sorsogon

A 23-year-old college student of Solis Institute of Technology and a SK OFficial of Zone 4, Bulan, Sorsogon,  who was undergoing an initiation rites in a fraternity on Sunday afternoon, February 16, 2020 has succumb to death due to injuries caused by hazing.

The victim identified by the local police as Omer Despabiladeras have collapsed when he sustained a number of paddling on a hazing ritual done by the Tau Gamma Phi Bulan Chapter Fraternity at Sitio Banase, San Vicente, Bulan, Sorsogoon.

The victim was pronounced dead-on-arrival by the attending Physician at the Pantaleon Gotladera Memorial Hospital according to the local police.

The initiation rites started at 10:00 o'clock in the morning and at 4:00 pm the victim suddenly collapsed which prompted the frat members to rush the victim to the hospital.

Hematoma were visible along the thighs of the victim and other parts of his body according to the police.

There are two (2) individuals who were put under the police custody for further investigation.

Republic Act 11053 specifically prohibits all forms of hazing in fraternities, sororities, and organizations in schools, including citizens' military training and citizens' army training. 

This prohibition shall likewise apply to all other fraternities, sororities, and organizations that are not school-based, such as community-based and other similar fraternities, sororities and organizations.#
